Simple Home Organization Ideas for a Calm Home Reset

Getting your home organised can support you and your family in such a refreshing, wholesome way. A calm, organised home creates space for cosy moments together, feel-good routines, and helps you stay on top of life,  whether that’s work, hobbies, or family time.

I know this because I’ve struggled with home organisation myself. I’ve tried lots of different ways to organise and reset my home, and I can genuinely feel how much it helps,  not just me, but my children too. Creating simple systems and realistic routines has made our home feel calmer, more functional, and easier to love being in.

Simple Home Organization Ideas

Does it have a place?

This is one of the quickest ways to decide if something is just in the way. I know it can be hard, I find things and think, will I need that later? or will I want to remember this cute thing of my child’s?
If the answer is yes, find a place for it. But if there isn’t a place for it, and you realistically don’t need it, let it go. Giving things a “home” makes everything feel calmer.

Plan out fix-it jobs

It can feel overwhelming when you start thinking about all the fix-it jobs you need to do. That’s why I loved this idea,  just write them all down. Get them out of your mind and onto paper. You’ll instantly feel lighter, and you can make a plan to get them done in a way that suits you, rather than all at once.

Sort Piles

This is one of my hacks that I started using when everything feels like it’s piling up and I don’t know where to begin. I just sort things into piles. They can be the most random piles.
For example, when I’m clearing out my daughter’s room, I’ll have a rubbish pile, a sentimental pile, and a nice toys/clothes pile. Once things are in piles, seeing the space already looking more ordered helps you feel good. Then you can deal with each pile when you’re ready.

Clever Storage Hacks

I love how lucky we are now with all the clever ways to store things. Over-the-door storage, drawer dividers, cute self-adhesive hooks. I even have self-adhesive coat hooks at the moment because the wall I wanted to hang my beautiful rustic coat hook on wouldn’t let me drill into it.
There are always ways to store things so your space works for you and feels functional, not frustrating.

Wash curtains

It’s something you don’t always think of, but it makes such a difference. It brightens up the space quickly, makes you feel good and they dry while they’re hanging.

Dehumidifiers/Air purifiers

These can make a huge difference to how a home feels. Less damp, fresher air, and just an overall cleaner feeling,  especially in bedrooms and living spaces.

Time out the do it jobs

This is really important if, like me, you need help with timing things. Write down the jobs you want to get done and estimate how long they’ll take.
For example, I know cleaning out my kitchen cupboards will take at least 30 minutes each. So I put those into a “30-minute jobs” list. Then when I have half an hour spare and feel like doing something, I can choose from that list. It stops everything feeling overwhelming.

File away paper

If you don’t need it, recycle or shred it. If you do need it, a really simple way to organise paperwork is to use a labelled ring binder.
No more papers stuffed in drawers (guilty). Everything is in one place, stored away neatly, and easy to find when you need it.

Tasks have scheduled days (flexible)

Use this in a way that actually works for you. Giving certain tasks their own day or month stops them floating around in your head.
For example, at the start of each month you might wipe the windows for that fresh-start feeling. Or the evening before your groceries arrive, you could clear out the fridge, throw away anything expired, and give it a quick wipe. It makes putting fresh food away feel so much nicer.
When routines feel good, you’re much more likely to stick to them.

Home cleaning planner

I’m just about to try this, but I honestly thought it was such a brilliant idea. I do fall behind sometimes because of everything else going on ,  and if I’m honest, I get distracted by more interesting things than organising. But I think this might help keep me on track. We’ll see!
