I won’t tell my son to “toughen up”
His tears will be accepted
I’ll notice his strength and his fears, all at once
So with his inner guidance, he can remain connected

I won’t tell my daughter to “act like a lady”
Her voice will be respected
I’ll acknowledge everything that makes her feel whole
And she’ll not be silenced when she feels something needs to be corrected

Stereotypes will not define my children
They’ll be empowered to own the strength of their own mind
And anyone who comes their way, be sure to know
Only by themselves will they be defined
